The Opportunity

The Software Engineer I is responsible for working with the Application Designer to understand the scope of the project and to configure and/or develop application.

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Union

Reports to: Leader, IT Development

As a Software Engineer I, you will be responsible for:

  • As directed, participating in software development including design, estimates, development, unit test, system test, integration deployment planning and production support.
  • Working with App Designer and reviewing user stories to implement system features. Working with team members to clarify requirements and ensure code achieves desired functionality.
  • Develop user interfaces, system server components, databases, API/Integration layers as well as automation tools to support development, test, and deployment.
  • Providing production support to users by analyzing the immediate issue and providing a software solution or alternative method of correcting or managing the problem.
  • Sourcing applications that will deliver the technical solution and capability necessary for our business. Programs the applications based on the project specification requirements.
  • Identifying and recommending improvements to development practices to improve productivity and client satisfaction.
  • Analyzing and advises on new technology trends and software development tools.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience you have:

  • The required knowledge and skills for the position would be acquired through a degree in computer science and 2 – 4 years of technical experience in the IT industry involving hands-on experience delivering web-based solutions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, and design patterns.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with new technologies and creative problem-solving.
  • Commitment to Agile software development methodologies including pair-programming, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
  • Good understanding of User Experience and User Interface design principles.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with others on software development.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and troubleshoot problems during development.
  • Expertise in creating applications using technologies such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, single page application frameworks and server side technologies, e.g. Django, Flask, .Net, etc.
  • Experience in development of Web Services (REST) API.
  • Experience using Python, Javascript, CSS, Angular, VUE, etc.
  • Familiarity with Object Relational Model (ORM), Telerik development tools, and hand crafting SQL queries and stored procedures.
